About
Musical Theatre Sessions, known as MT Sessions, is a musical theatre cabaret created to give artists the chance to perform, network, and share their love for musical theatre. It is specifically targeted towards college students in central Oklahoma City. The organization is run by Producing Artistic Director Hannah Kimball. Events take place during the academic school year with a minimum of two per semester. Each cabaret has a specific musical theatre styled theme; all events are free with donations greatly appreciated.

MT Sessions was formed in March of 2018 by OkSessions CEO Christian Pearson and OKC performer Gavin Drew. OkSessions is an Oklahoma company that focuses on promoting up and coming artists through creating performance opportunities that can then build their following. OkSessions believes music itself is a means of change, and when artists collaborate and support each other, new cultures are created. With that in mind, MT Sessions' creation was branched off of OkSessions, focusing specifically on those in the musical theatre community by creating a cabaret performance space. Various performances were held in the spring at Saints Pub before the organization came to its short-lived end that summer.

In February 2019, Hannah Kimball, Oklahoma City University '21 and producer, was noticing how college level artists were in need of a performing outlet in a space other than school. There were no places for these artists to gather together to share their love for musical theatre, expand on their craft, and collaborate with each other in an off campus professional setting. When Hannah learned about MT Sessions and its history, she reached out to Christian Pearson about her thoughts and ideas. The meeting resulted in their agreement to have Hannah bring back and revamp MT Sessions - the first cabaret was scheduled for April 22, 2019. Taking place at OKC Improv, the space was able to hold 66 enthusiastic and engaged audience members, 19 performers containing OCU students of all grade levels and performers of Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, and energy that showed MT Sessions was here to stay.
After seeing the success of MT Sessions and what it was capable of achieving, Hannah decided to take it a step further in strengthening the community of college level artists in central Oklahoma. There had always been such a disconnect between those of Oklahoma City University, University of Oklahoma, and University of Central Oklahoma, and she wanted to create an environment that could bring together students' talents to build up the community. Everyone was working to be in the same entertainment business, so being able to meet and collaborate at an early stage felt beneficial and crucial.
Ever since, MT Sessions has worked hard to achieve these goals and will continue to do so. The hope is that MT Sessions will help bring more confidence to college level artists by providing them with the opportunity to perform in a professional cabaret styled environment. Along with that, performers and audience members will share their kindness and joy with each other and in return create a community filled with support and acceptance. Until the COVID-19 pandemic, all cabarets took place at The Paramount Room on Film Row in the heart of downtown Oklahoma City.
